The Luxor CUBE Transforms a Family's Backyard

The Challenge The homeowners wanted to update their aging patio and pool deck for their 20th wedding anniversary party. To liven up their outdoor space, they remodeled their entire backyard, adding new hardscape, a fireplace, bar, and a complete FX Luminaire Luxor lighting system including LF LED wall lights, PB LED wall-wash lights, and NL LED down lights. They chose the Luxor ® ZDC controller to provide the most advanced lighting control with zoning, dimming, and color. Sugar Hill Outdoors designed and installed the space for optimal versatility. To add a bit of panache, they hung bistro lights over the pool, and to bring some tranquility to the yard, they installed an illuminated water feature. Both the bistro lights and water feature pump run at 110 volts and are not part of the FX family of low voltage lights. The challenge was to provide the family with full control of all their outdoor lighting, including the bistro lights and water feature from one app, on one device. The Solution The designers planned to wire multiple switches to control the bistro lights and water pump until Des Williams, Director of Sales and Marketing at Sugar Hill Outdoors told them about the Luxor CUBE. The CUBE allows the Luxor controller to zone and dim line voltage light fixtures and control other devices like water feature pumps and automatic gates. The CUBE creates a zone, and all devices installed in-line after the CUBE operate as a single group, turning on/off and dimming together. “With the CUBE, the homeowners can control the bistro lighting and their water feature just as they would the rest of their lighting,” said Williams. The Result The anniversary party was a success and everyone loved the upgraded backyard. Now whether it's time for a celebration or to watch the game, the homeowners can fully enjoy their space. Williams said, "What takes this project to the next level is the FX Luminaire app that allows the homeowners to have total control of their lighting system, which makes setting up lighting themes a breeze."
