EnviroGrid ® is a three-dimensional cellular confinement system that provides a cost effective and sustainable solution to erosion control problems and soil stabilization needs. The geocell confines and strengthens infill material and significantly reduces the amount of infill material needed, allowing for the use of local aggregate. Made with ultrasonically welded HDPE virgin resin, EnviroGrid ® is designed for long term use in critical applications such as base stabilization, slope erosion, channel protection and retaining walls. The first cellular confinement system was developed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for its use in Desert Storm in order to construct roads over soft ground. Since 1990, Geo Products has manufactured the EnviroGrid ® Geocell in the USA in its ISO 9001 certified facility with superior quality control standards. Geo Products specializes in offering a range of high quality polyethylene products, tailored to your needs. The EnviroGrid ® Geocell is manufactured in three different cell sizes or apertures with four different cell heights. The three cell apertures are EGA 20, EGA 30, and EGA 40, all offered in cell heights of 3", 4", 6", and 8". EnviroGrid is shipped in flat panels and expanded into the 3-D honeycomb structure. The standard EnviroGrid section is manufactured from 58 strips of HDPE ultrasonically welded together, resulting in a section length of 29 cells, with each strip being the approved width and 142 inches in length.

Lane Channel Restoration Project

Location:Irvine, California, USA

In 2018, Orange County Public Works began planning the restoration of Lane Channel for flood control in the region. The project's objective was to re-establish the banks of the channel by integrating a solution that would be able to control erosion with native vegetation. In 2019, EnviroGrid® was installed throughout the channel's banks, and reinforced with a tendon anchoring system. EnviroGrid® was chosen as a long-term erosion control solution and provided many environmental benefits in addition to the aesthetic appeal it provided. The re-established vegetation in conjunction with the geocell system gave opportunity to reduce bacteria through the filtration that it provided, while the removed sediment prevented accumulated pollutants from migrating to Upper Newport Bay, yielding additional water quality and environmental benefit.
