Challenge: Located deep in the New Mexico desert, a remote refinery operated by a major American energy company needed lighting for a newly developed parking lot. With no electrical infrastructure in place—and the possibility the lot may only be temporary—extending grid power wasn’t practical. The site required a lighting solution that could be installed quickly, operate independently of the grid, and remain flexible enough to relocate if operational needs changed.Solution: Having previously deployed more than 100 solar lighting systems across its Artesia operations, the company once again turned to Sol. This project called for 30 iSSL Maxi 4 all-in-one solar lighting systems, selected for their compact design and cost efficiency. With flat-mounted solar panels and NiMH batteries suited to the region’s abundant sun and temperature swings, the lights were installed without trenching, wiring, or grid connections. Sol also configured custom lighting profiles to align brightness levels with worker activity throughout the night.Impact: The parking lot is now safely illuminated with reliable, off-grid lighting. Installation was quick and non-invasive, and the systems can be relocated if site needs change. For the refinery team, solar lighting proved to be a practical way to improve safety while avoiding the cost and complexity of extending grid power.
