Grijalva Park is an epicenter for sports and recreation. The facility held many activities for athletes, but offerings weren’t as plentiful for those not in organized athletics. To address the need, the city added a 19-unit outdoor gym next to a walking path. The gym includes activities for virtually every park visitor from teenagers to seniors, and accommodates 33 simultaneous users. Three wheelchair accessible units from Greenfields’ patented Signature Accessible™ line offer upper body strengthening exercises without requiring wheelchair users to transfer. The units offer stations for the able-bodied on the same footprint, creating a highly inclusive space that can be enjoyed by all. Across from the Signature Accessible™ units, an additional three exercise stations round out the selection of strength-building upper body units. The adjacent cluster consists of seven units from Greenfields’ Professional Series, six of which incorporate adjustable resistance. These unique outdoor fitness units create a truly multigenerational space, allowing those of virtually any fitness level to exercise side by side, and are perfect for grandparents and parents visiting the park during young athletes’ practices. The third and final cluster includes several units for stretching, plus several light, low-impact cardio units, and the 3-Person Static Combo with stations for pull-ups, dips, and sit-ups. Each cluster features a shade structure to provide a respite from midday heat, as well as lighting installed underneath the shade, allowing use well into the evening. Situated next to a densely-populated neighborhood and installed next to the main route through the park, the outdoor gym has added an important element to the park, ensuring that there are activities for every user.
