A complete outdoor gym experience with unparalleled accessibility options – at John Prince Park in Lake Worth, FL, this incredible amenity is now available to all park visitors at no extra charge! At 2,112 square feet and occupying a nearly-perfect square, the fitness zone boasts 17 units serving up to 32 people at a time. With six separate stations dedicated to wheelchair users, it’s the most inclusive workout environment for miles around.
Project planners took care to ensure that the fitness area was as wheelchair-friendly as possible: Concrete surfacing is easy to navigate over, and adequate clearances ensure that wheelchair users can access ADA stations with ease. A concrete walkway connects the fitness zone to the nearby parking lot. To create a complete upper body workout experience for a population especially at risk for obesity and related diseases, the six wheelchair accessible stations from Greenfields’ Signature Accessible™ line include a Vertical Press, Lat Pull, Chest Press, Butterfly Press, Reverse Butterfly Press, and Hand Cycle. This selection of exercises both helps to build muscles used to propel manual wheelchairs, and also strengthens the reverse muscles to help prevent injuries. The Vertical Press, Lat Pull, and Chest Press units all allow for an able-bodied individual to use the units simultaneously, fostering socialization and building community cohesion.
In addition to the dual-user upper body units, the able-bodied can also work out on separate Butterfly and Reverse Butterfly units, the Rower, and the 2-Level Horizontal Bars. Lower body units include two Single Ellipticals, the 2-Person Cross Country Ski, 4-Person Leg Press, and 4-Person Lower Body Combo. For core muscles, the 2-Person Sit-Up Bench and 4-Person Pendulum, Abs & Dips station provide both stretching and strengthening exercises. All equipment was surface mounted for a clean look, and a shade structure covers the entire fitness area, shielding users from the hot Florida sun.
